JKF releases 12WKC video and DVD!!

JKF will release the homevideo and DVD of the award-winning documentary
TV program by NHK featuring the 12th World Kendo Championships.
The film is in Japanese only with no English subtitles, but it is also
enjoyable and worth seeing for non-Japanese kendo players,
as it shows the daily practice of Eiga, the captain of Japanese team,
and his matches with Masahiro Miyazaki, the former champion of Japan Kendo
Championships, over the past few years.

TV program featuring kendo awarded a prize

NHK won a prize of the Agency for Cultural Affairs for the documentary
TV program featuring the 12th World Kendo Championships.
Of course, the highlight of the film is the Tsuki of Eiga which led
Japan to the 12th victory in the championship.
Without the Tsuki, the program could not be as impressive and moving as it is.

If you see the program carefully, you can find Abe(me) in the audience!

NHKのドキュメント番組「ただ一撃にかける」が平成15年度の文化庁芸術祭賞を受賞していたのですね。
番組構成も確かによかったけれど、やっぱりあの「一撃」が受賞の決め手なのかも。
ちなみにツキが決まった直後に僕、ちょっと映ってます。

Kendo Master’s Izakaya in Ginza

Koichiro Suzuki, the master of Japanese Izakaya“Uogashi Ko-chan”
is Renshi 6-dan who practices kendo at the dojo in Tsukiji Police.
The izakaya is in Ginza8-chome and serves a variety of fresh
seafoods as its name tells. (Uogashi means“a fish market”in Japanese.)
You may see some pictures of his kendo matches on the wall, and
Suzuki is always delighted to share some kendo-talk with you.
If you are lucky, you may even meet Abe(me) there!!

Please tell me if you know any bar or restaurant whose
owner is a kendo lover.

銀座8丁目にある魚料理「魚河岸耕ちゃん」のご主人、鈴木耕一郎さんは
剣道錬士六段の腕前。今も築地警察で定期的に稽古に励んでいるそうです。

Kendo Ornament?
No, this is not an ornament nor a trophy.
This is a bottle of shochu, the rough distilled Japanese spirits named 'Kendo'.
Though 'Kendo' is not very well known even in Japan,
it must be the best choice as a gift for those who loves kendo and a drink!
When the bottle is empty, then you can display it on your shelf
and enjoy it as an ornament.

問題です。これは何でしょうか？
オブジェでも、トロフィーでもありません。
実はこれ、焼酎のボトル。その名も「剣道」。
この焼酎、まだそれほど知られていませんが、
お酒をたしなむ剣道愛好家へのプレゼントにぴったり。
飲んだ後は飾っておけますしね。
２つ飲み干せば、上段同士の対決シーンが再現できる？
